My name is Shelley Jones and I run Fortera Acupuncture, offering online and over the phone appointments. I carry out tailor made treatment plans for individuals who suffer with ill health; whether physical, mental or emotional.
I have been on my own quest to wellness and this has made me ambitious and dedicated to wanting to help others find their own wellness, to enable them to reach their greatest potential.
Previously I worked within the mental health sector for many years and have since spent 4 years studying Chinese medicine at the renowned College of Integrated Chinese Medicine in Reading (affiliated with Kingston University), graduating with a BSc Honours degree in Acupuncture. I am a full member of the BAcC (British Acupuncture Council).
From the very first conversation I had with Shelley I knew I was in good hands. Shelley took the time to really understand my symptoms. She is truly amazing... thank you!
The tendinitis pain in my shoulder was very much reduced after the first treatment, allowing me to sleep better. Shelley has such a positive energy, a huge smile and I always leave you feeling happy in mind body and spirit.
Shelley was fantastic from day one, I went in with a problem with my back which I had for years and finally had the chance to look into it. I would highly recommend Shelley for treatment if you are after a friendly, kind service then look no further!
Shelley has helped me through major transitions in my life, her unique qualities are seldom found. Would recommend Shelley to anyone.
After the very first treatment I noticed an immediate improvement, and after around 2 months of treatments, the problem had gone away completely! I'm very pleased undergone the treatment and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Shelly and acupuncture in future.
I have been seeing Shelley for over a year, during which time she has helped me with acute and chronic problems. I would highly recommend her to anyone suffering and feeling that they have nowhere to turn.
From my first appointment I knew I was in very safe hands. Shelley listened and understood what I needed, and treated me appropriately; looking after my physical and emotional health. Shelley is a fantastic practitioner who I whole heartedly and highly recommend.
I always feel so much better after having a treatment with Shelley! I would definitely recommend her, she is so lovely and positive!

Five Element Acupuncture is a powerful method for healing body, mind and spirit through subtle energetic rebalancing. This form of acupuncture is documented in Chinese medical classics from as early as 200BC.
Acupuncture works by extremely fine needles being inserted into specific points (carefully chosen by the practitioner) which then connect to energy (Qi) within pathways of the body known as channels.
Tuina is a hand’s on treatment that works with the same principles of acupuncture where techniques are applied to promote and stimulate the body’s own natural healing process.
Used with suction cups or by a flame to create a vacuum within the cup which is then placed onto the area to be treated; this suction draws the skin upwards and promotes the movement of Qi.
Guasha is a therapy whereby a smooth edged tool is used; oil is put on to the skin and the guasha tool is then rubbed over the affected area to help promote the smooth flow of Qi.
Moxa can be used in various forms; moxa stick covers a larger area, moxa cones placed onto needles or directly onto the skin over specific acupuncture points.
Electroacupuncture is a form of acupuncture whereby clips are attached to the acupuncture needles and a small current is passed between them stimulating the smooth flow of Qi.
Acupressure uses physical pressure applied to traditional acupuncture points. As it can be self administered, with practitioners guidance, it is an effective and convenient alternative to acupuncture.

During the initial consultation you will receive a treatment as well as a full case history being taken; a wide variety of questions will be asked to ascertain signs and symptoms and look at the root cause of these.
My approach to treatments integrates Traditional Chinese Acupuncture with 5 Element Acupuncture, which can include one or more of the following: acupressure, needling, electro-acupuncture, cupping, guasha, moxtibustion and TuiNa (Chinese bodywork massage). I am passionate about gaining rapport with each individual I work with to truly understand them, their needs, to ensure they leave feeling that they have been heard and understood, with a clear understanding of how we can work together.
Your first appointment will be your initial consultation, where you can discuss your symptoms and ask any questions you have. A treatment plan is then agreed on and treatments will be carried out. After several sessions of treatments we review your progress, reassess your situation and agree the next stage of your treatment plan. Unlike Western medicine, no one condition is treated the same, as Chinese medicine treats the person not the symptoms, getting to the root cause of why a problem is occurring. This makes your treatment unique to you. Often patients come for one specific problem, but find positive changes in various other areas of life; from improved sleep and energy, to feeling less stressed and more balanced.
The consultation and treatment process is carried out following the same format; instead using acupressure points that are identified in your bespoke treatment plan. This is a convenient and effective alternative to acupuncture.
The changes as a result of acupuncture will vary from person to person, and are not guaranteed, as each individual is unique and responds to treatment in different ways. The benefits could be physical or mental, and are closely linked to your specific symptom, treatment and lifestyle.
With regards to how long it will take to see results often depends on how long you have had the problem; this can be discussed further with your practitioner but it is usually recommended that 4-6 weekly treatments are required to start to regain balance within the body. Results cannot be guaranteed, as results of treatment do vary from person to person.
Treatment takes 45 minutes to 1 hour
